Taylor County Jail Overview
Taylor County Jail is the only adult detention facility physically confirmed in Taylor County through the official source set. It is operated by the Taylor County Sheriff's Office. The county sheriff page lists the office on North Ivy Street in Butler and links to the current jail roster. The Georgia Department of Corrections also has a Taylor County Jail location page that identifies it as a county jail and confirms the jail phone.
The jail holds local pretrial detainees, people awaiting trial, county-sentenced inmates, state-sentenced inmates waiting on transfer, and other local holds. Inspected roster entries showed arresting or holding agency text for Taylor County SO, Butler PD, Reynolds PD, and Schley County SO. No separate work-release annex, city jail, regional jail, state prison, BOP institution, or ICE facility was located in Taylor County.
The official sheriff page is the local hub for the jail phone, dispatch number, current roster link, and quarterly jail report link.
The sheriff page screenshot supports the local routing point: roster searches and jail contact both begin with the sheriff's office page.
Taylor County Jail Population
The Georgia Sheriffs' Association May 2026 jail report listed Taylor County Jail with 65 permanent beds and 32 inmates, or 49.2% of capacity. It also listed 30 inmates awaiting trial, 1 sentenced to a state institution, 1 serving a county sentence, and 1 other inmate. That monthly report is the current official capacity source in the research file.
The live roster count can differ from the monthly report. During the June 4, 2026 roster inspection, the Taylor County public roster showed 36 current items. The monthly report and the public roster use different dates and purposes, so the difference is expected. The roster helps with current lookup, while the Georgia Sheriffs' Association report gives a dated population and capacity table.
Taylor County Jail Custody Types
Taylor County Jail is a county jail, not a state prison. That distinction matters for inmate lookup. The county jail roster covers people in local custody. A person may be booked there after an arrest by the sheriff, Butler Police Department, Reynolds Police Department, or another agency that delivers or places the person in Taylor County custody. A person sentenced to Georgia prison may remain in the county jail for a short time while waiting on transfer.
Once a person moves into GDC custody, the Taylor County Jail roster may stop being the best search source. Use the state locator for people serving Georgia prison sentences, BOP for sentenced federal custody, and ICE for immigration detention. Taylor County's first-quarter 2025 jail report recorded 3 USDHS immigration detainers, but that report does not mean Taylor County Jail is an ICE detention facility.
| Custody Type | Where to Look | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Current county jail inmate | Taylor roster | Local jail custody and current bookings. |
| Sentenced Georgia prisoner | GDC Find an Offender | State prison custody after transfer or admission. |
| Sentenced federal inmate | BOP Inmate Locator | Federal custody after BOP designation. |
| Immigration detention | ICE Online Detainee Locator | ICE detainee location, not county roster search. |
Lookup Taylor County Jail Inmates
The Taylor County Jail lookup uses the same public roster described on the sheriff page. It includes Current Inmates, 24 Hours Arrests, and Inmates by Arrest Date tabs. The first and last name fields are optional, and leaving them blank can return the current list. The roster does not provide a separate booking-number search or a released-inmate archive in the inspected interface.
- Open the Taylor County Jail roster.
- Choose Current Inmates for people held now, 24 Hours Arrests for a recent arrest, or Inmates by Arrest Date when the date is known.
- Enter the person's last name, first name, or both. Use a blank search if spelling is uncertain.
- Review the card entry for status, arrest date, days in jail, and total bond.
- Read the charge grid for warrant number, statute, description, M/F, and court.
- Call Taylor County Jail at 478-862-5444 if the person may be newly booked, released, transferred, or held under another spelling.

Taylor County Jail Visits
Taylor County does not publish official jail visitation hours, video-visit rules, visitor approval requirements, dress code, holiday visit policy, attorney-visit process, or lobby hours online in the reviewed sources. That means the jail phone is not just a backup. It is the official channel found for visit planning.
Call 478-862-5444 before traveling. Ask whether the person is still in custody, whether public visits are allowed that day, whether visits are in person or video, what ID is accepted, whether children may attend, how early to arrive, what dress code applies, and whether phones, bags, keys, medicine, or paperwork can enter the facility.
| Visit Topic | Published Taylor County Detail | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Public visitation schedule | Not published online | Call 478-862-5444 before travel. |
| Video visits | No official vendor located | Do not assume remote visits are available. |
| Attorney visits | Procedure not published | Attorneys should contact the jail directly. |
| Holiday or lockdown visits | Not published online | Confirm same day with the jail. |
Taylor County Jail Mail
The reviewed Taylor County and GDC sources did not publish a mail format, commissary vendor, online deposit link, money-order policy, inmate phone provider, tablet provider, or fee schedule. Do not mail books, packages, photos, money orders, or other items until the jail confirms the current rules. Operational rules can change faster than a small county website.
For mail and money questions, ask the jail for the inmate's booking or ID number if one is needed, the exact mailing address format, whether letters are scanned or physically delivered, what items are banned, whether money orders are accepted, whether a lobby kiosk exists, what fees apply, and whether deposits can be made online, by phone, or in person.
| Service | Official Detail Located | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Mail address format | Not published | Call before sending mail. |
| Books or packages | Not published | Do not send until jail confirms. |
| Commissary vendor | Not located | No vendor should be named without jail confirmation. |
| Deposit fees | Not located | Ask the jail for current fee and payment rules. |
| Phone or tablet vendor | Not located | Call for current communication options. |
Taylor County Jail Booking
Taylor County does not publish a local booking-process walkthrough. The roster and Georgia court rules still show the basic path: arrest, transport or delivery to the jail, identification, intake, charge and warrant entry, bond or first appearance, then release, continued detention, or transfer. The public roster displays arrest date and agency, days in jail, total bond, custody status, physical descriptors, and charge rows.
Georgia first-appearance timing is governed by O.C.G.A. 17-4-26 and related court procedure, generally using 48 hours for warrantless arrests or 72 hours after arrest with a warrant unless bond is made. Taylor County Magistrate Court has jurisdiction that includes criminal warrants, search warrants, and bail where another court does not have exclusive authority. The roster may show MAGISTRATE COURT in the charge grid before a later Superior Court filing exists.
Note: If Total Bond says NOT SET or DENIED, call the jail or court before attempting to post bond.
Taylor County Jail Records
For records not shown online, use a Georgia Open Records Act request directed to the Taylor County Sheriff's Office or the office that keeps the record. Jail records can include booking sheets, jail logs, charge and bond records, incident reports, or booking photographs. Court records after an arrest are maintained by the court clerk or court office, not by the jail roster.
Make the request specific. Include the person's full name, arrest date, arresting agency, warrant or case number if visible, record type, date range, preferred copy format, and contact information for cost estimates. Georgia law allows redactions and lawful fees. Booking photographs also have special limits under O.C.G.A. 35-1-19, so the requester may need to state that the photo will not be used in a paid-removal publication or website.
Taylor County Jail Directions
The jail is in Butler, the Taylor County seat, near the downtown government area. The courthouse is at 2 North Broad Street, while the jail is on North Ivy Street. Visitors who need both custody and court information should keep the offices separate even though they are close by.
Official Taylor County sources did not publish visitor parking rules, public transit stop details, ADA entrance information, locker rules, or turn-by-turn directions. Use a live map to route to 5 North Ivy Street from GA-96 or other local roads into Butler, and call the jail before arrival.
About Taylor County Jail
The sheriff page names Sheriff Jeff Watson and describes the Taylor County Sheriff's Office as focused on drug enforcement and highway safety. It also notes the office's past Governor's Challenge and National Challenge recognition for highway-safety efforts. Those details give local operator context, but the sheriff page does not publish a detention-division staff list, housing-unit map, visitor handbook, medical policy, program guide, or accreditation page.
The 2025 first-quarter jail report is a scanned Criminal Alien Track and Report Act compliance report, not a full annual jail report. It was signed by Jail Administrator Tiara Pettiford and reported 141 inmates booked during the quarter, 41 LESC inquiries, 47 responses, 12 responses indicating illegal alien, and 3 USDHS immigration detainers. Use that report for population and immigration-detainer context, not for visitation, booking, mail, or program rules.
Note: Confirm custody, bond, visits, mail, and money rules with Taylor County Jail before traveling or sending funds.
